Rotary to welcome new members

478px-Groucho_MarxThe Muscatine Rotary at noon today is scheduled to welcome yours truly as a new member.

It could rank as the darkest hour in the organization’s history. While I’m pleased to join and will do my best to represent Rotary, I can’t help but think of the famous Groucho Marx quote: “I don’t want to belong to any club that will accept people like me as a member.”

RotaryActually, there are probably several members of the Muscatine club questioning my membership, but I am grateful for their approval. And I’ll try to write a little more about this once I know more about it.

Author: Chris Steinbach

I am a native Iowan who worked 23 years as a newspaper reporter and editor, most recently in Muscatine, Iowa. I am now deputy director at Muscatine Center for Social Action, a nonprofit organization established in 1991 to serve residents of the community who are in need. This blog is my place to write, which is how I best make sense of things. My interests include reading, writing, bicycling, current events and helping others.
