The Day Job

The greatest thing about my job as a development officer at Loras College is traveling the country, meeting and befriending other Duhawks.

Loras is a private, Catholic, liberal arts college with about 1,600 students. Established in Dubuque in 1839, it is the oldest college in Iowa and the oldest Catholic college west of the Mississippi River. Its athletic teams are known as the Duhawks, a name bestowed upon the football team by a Detroit Free Press sportswriter in 1924, combining Dubuque and Hawks.

I meet with graduates, parents and other Loras supporters, helping them decide how they can best help the college and its current and future students. It is a great job and could be nothing less because Loras is a very special place.
