My employer, Muscatine Center for Social Action, has assumed oversight of the community’s Domestic Violence Shelter, which Family Resources had announced plans to close at the end of 2013.
The DV Shelter has remained open without an interruption in service and staff members there have become MCSA employees. You may learn more about this by watching this 30-minute video made at Muscatine Community College by MCSA Executive Director Maggie Curry, Rachel Riley-Smock, who is director of the DV Shelter, and me.
Since late October, many community leaders — including members of the MCSA Board of Directors — have put in a lot of time and work to make this happen. And you can read about that here.
But the hard work isn’t finished. Rachel and others are still working to raise money for the Domestic Violence Shelter. If this is a cause you would like to support, you may make online donations here.
Of course, you can always contact me and I’ll help you out.
