This may not have legs, but it generated enough interest to merit a post here.
Last week, Janet posted this link on my Facebook page, riffing on a running theme from last summer about the views many men have regarding jorts that are not shared by the women in their lives.
But then a friend — who knows about my day job, where I work to raise money for MCSA — asked how much money could be raised if I would agree to wear a pair of crocheted shorts for a price. “Let’s start the bidding now,” he wrote.
In no time, there were pledges for $150 and at least two friends separately set about making a pair of crocheted shorts for me to wear.
That’s where the whole idea likely will die, but the offer I made Friday on Facebook still stands: I’m up for the challenge if someone makes a pair of crocheted shorts that will fit and if enough people chip in to raise at least $1,500 for MCSA.
For those who don’t know, $1,500 is about what it costs per day to operate MCSA, the nonprofit organization that runs the homeless and domestic violence shelters in Muscatine, Iowa. For the third consecutive year, I am seeking donors for a program called Adopt-A-Day at MCSA. The goal is to find enough donors to raise $1,500 per day for the 31 days in August and as many days as possible in September.
At the same time this was happening Friday on Facebook, we learned at work that MCSA has secured a matching grant from a for-now anonymous donor who will match dollar for dollar — up to $25,000 — all 2015 Adopt-A-Day at MCSA donations that:
- Are from donors who are new to the program.
- Represent an increase over the amount given by a donor from last year to this year.
This means that any amount my Facebook friends contribute to see me wear crocheted shorts would be matched by the anonymous donor as long as the money is designated for Adopt-A-Day.
So can my Facebook friends and blog readers raise $1,500 to see me wear a really ugly pair of crocheted shorts?
I don’t know.
But you may make donations via PayPal. Go to MCSA’s website and click on the PayPal button. Please indicate you are making the donation as one of my Facebook friends or blog readers.
Or you may send checks to my attention at: MCSA, 312 Iowa Ave., Muscatine IA 52761. In the memo line, please note that you are donating because you are one of my Facebook friends or a reader of this blog.
Help raise at least $1,500 and I’ll wear a pair of crocheted shorts if someone makes them. And I’ll post a picture here for all to see.
Please be generous. Remember, it’s for a good cause. And all donations are tax-deductible.
