Editor’s Notebook: Just the facts about a story in the Journal

Nearly everyone knows some version of the fable about Chicken Little, who believes the sky is falling after being hit in the head by an acorn.

There are many versions of the story and each teaches a slightly different lesson. In one version the moral of the story is to not believe everything you are told, which applies to much of what gets reported these days about the business of reporting the news.

One of the often-reported myths about traditional journalism is that it has already been put out to pasture by Twitter, Facebook and other social-networking Web sites.
