But I don’t feel like doing a 2012 retrospective, which has been encouraged by the Powers That Be at WordPress. What would I write beyond:
- I lost my job in February.
- It took eight months to find something else to do that I really wanted to do.
- The experience really sucked.
- It did, however, give me an extended period to work out and I lost a bit of weight so it wasn’t all bad.
If you’re a regular reader, you already know all that. So why bore you by rehashing it?
Perhaps I’ll publish a longer list of resolutions next week. For now, I resolve in 2013 to read Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged. If nothing else, the experience might help me understand the popularity and success of someone such as Sean Hannity. He has always struck me as the right-wing TV version of Tom Grunick, the role played by William Hurt in the movie Broadcast News. In other words, I’m not sure he could really speak if he didn’t have a producer piped into his ear, telling him what to say.
And if Rand fails at helping me understand Hannity, maybe I’ll at least figure out why anyone would treat with any respect the work of a writer who would refer to someone with mental illness as a dangerous nut. Ann Coulter’s success and popularity completely escapes me. I don’t even find her remotely hot in those little black dresses she loves to wear for her many TV appearances.
These are some of the things on which I will be working in 2013. Well, at least I’m going to read the book.
