Hey Ya, maybe you could turn it down a bit

With every passing day, things happen that make me feel older.

It’s enough to make me wonder how long it really will be before I’m shouting, “Hey, kid. Get off my lawn.”

This morning, as I was walking from my truck to work, I saw — well, to be more accurate, I heard — something that left me scratching my bald head. A dad — a guy who looked pretty young to me — was loading two small kids into the backseat of an extended-cab pickup. The kids were small enough that one them needed a car seat.

Anyway, as he was loading the kids, the guy was playing Outkast‘s “Hey Ya!” on the pickup stereo at a volume that would have made Andre 3000 proud. As I walked, the music could be easily heard from at least half a block away.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????Now, I’m well aware that if it’s too loud, you’re too old.

But what if you’re too young?

Those were pretty small kids in the backseat of that pickup. And they would have been sitting practically on top of those stereo speakers.

After being exposed to that enough times, just imagine how well those kids will hear by the time they start school. It’s enough to make me wish I could have had a cane with me to give their pop a whack.
